Our Financial Education Journey

From humble beginnings to transforming how people understand money management - here's how zavoreliqua became the UK's trusted partner in budget literacy

2018

The Foundation Years

zavoreliqua started in a shared workspace in Glasgow when founders Petra Morgenstern and James Whitfield noticed something troubling. Their friends and colleagues were making decent salaries but still struggling with basic money decisions. Credit card debt was piling up, savings accounts remained empty, and the idea of investing felt impossibly complex.

Launched first budget literacy workshops for 50 local participants
Developed core curriculum focusing on practical money skills
Established partnerships with three Glasgow community centres

Digital Expansion

The pandemic pushed us online faster than we'd planned, but it opened incredible opportunities. We discovered people across the UK were hungry for honest financial education that didn't involve complex jargon or unrealistic promises. Our virtual workshops filled up within hours, and we started hearing from participants who'd successfully paid off debt and started emergency funds.

Reached over 2,000 participants through online programs
Created mobile-friendly budget tracking tools
Expanded to serve participants from Edinburgh to Manchester
Published first comprehensive guide to UK banking basics

Building Community Impact

Last year marked our transition from educational provider to community builder. We launched peer support groups where participants could share their money wins and challenges in a judgment-free environment. The breakthrough came when we realized that financial literacy isn't just about spreadsheets and calculations - it's about changing how people think about their relationship with money.

Facilitated 15 ongoing peer support groups across the UK
Helped participants collectively save over £400,000
Launched specialized programs for university students and new graduates
Partnered with local libraries to provide free resources

Where We're Heading Next

2025 brings exciting developments as we prepare to launch our most ambitious programs yet. We're not just teaching budgeting anymore - we're building a movement where financial confidence becomes accessible to everyone, regardless of their starting point or background.
